Description

Nabq Nature Reserve is a stunning protected area located around 35 kilometers north of Sharm El Sheikh, in Egypt’s South Sinai. Established in 1992, the reserve spans approximately 600 square kilometers and is celebrated for its remarkable mix of desert, mountain, marine, and coastal ecosystems.

🌿 Ecological Significance:
Nabq is home to the northernmost mangrove forests in the Red Sea region, particularly Avicennia marina, which line the coast for about 4.5 kilometers. These mangroves are essential for protecting the coastline and supporting marine biodiversity.

The reserve features:

134+ plant species, six of which are unique to the area.
Wildlife such as Dorcas gazelles, Nubian ibex, hyraxes, and reptiles.
Birdlife including spoonbills, ospreys, herons, and the endemic white-eyed gull.
Marine life including coral reefs, seagrass beds, sea turtles, and dugongs.
🏜️ Cultural and Historical Elements:
Nabq is also home to the Bedouin El Mezina tribe, who continue to live traditionally through fishing, herding, and eco-tourism. Within the reserve lies the wreck of the Maria Schröder, a cargo ship grounded in 1956, now a historic point of interest.

Visitors can enjoy:
